FOREST RESTORATION (Grades 5-8)This
1/2 day field trip allows
students to visit local ponderosa pine forest restoration projects.
Students will
collect scientific data at the site to be analyzed in the classroom
as a follow-up
activity.(Pre-visit program, "Restoring Forests", recommended.

DOWNTOWN GEOLOGY(Grades 2-8) Learn
with your class about the
geology and history of downtown Flagstaff and its building stones.
Find fossils
downtown and see an ancient lava flow. (Pre-visit program recommended)

KACHINA WETLANDS/PUMPHOUSE WASH
This all day field trip
compares a constructed wetland at Kachina ponds to the natural
wetland at
Pumphouse wash. The Kachina ponds are a model for constructive
use of
municipal waste water, providing a valuable wildlife resource
in northern
Arizona. Students will observe wildlife sign and learn more
about wetland habitat. Mary
WALNUT CANYON NATIONAL MONUMENT This
1/2 day or all day
tour follows the Rim and/or Island Trail. The day includes stories,
games,
activities and information about plants, wildlife, geology, and
the lives
of the Sinagua. Mary
SUNSET CRATER NATIONAL MONUMENT
This 1/2 day or all day
trip includes stories, games, activities and information about
plants, wildlife,
geology, and the lives of the Sinagua. Visitor Center tour includes
seismograph demonstration. Mary
WUPATKI NATIONAL MONUMENT This 1/2
day or all day trip
includes stories, activities, and information about plants, wildlife,
geology,
and the lives of the Sinagua. Visitor Center tour. Mary
OAK CREEK CANYON This all day outing
will focus on life zones, plant
identification, geology and water studies. Actual site may vary
due to Forest

THE MT. ELDEN ENVIRONMENTAL STUDY AREA
Trip lengths
range from a few hours to all day. Your class can visit the spring,
the old
homestead, the fire site, and see lots of interesting plants
growing here.

LAMAR HAINES MEMORIAL WILDLIFE AREA This
full day field
trip on the San Francisco Peaks offers spectacular fall colors
and a beautiful
hike. Petroglyphs, caves, and a natural spring provide a wonderful
local
experience. Fall recommended. Mar/Mary
GRIFFITH SPRINGS This 1/2 day field
trip to a fragile riparian ecosystem
only a few miles south of town introduces students to the importance
to the
importance of limiting human impact and appreciation of the natural
world.
ONE CLASS GROUP MAXIMUM PER VISIT. Kimberly/Mar
OLD CAVES CRATER This half day or
full day field trip entails a hike
up a cinder cone near Cromer School. The area is geologically
and culturally

LAVA RIVER CAVE (grades 7 and up)
This all day trip to a fantastic
lava tube/ice cave compliments the "Exploring Caves"
classroom presentation.
The trip focuses on history, geology and conservation of this
interesting feature. Mary
