"ADVENTURES IN THE SCIENTIFIC METHOD" Grades K-8 (Mary) From question to conclusion we will explore the scientific process. Students will perform a short experiment to answer a question. This program helps students develop a question and design an experiment for a science fair.
"LIVING THINGS COUNT" Grades 4-8 (Mary)Students will see patterns in nature and discover the mathematical patterns in a sunflower, a pine cone, and other natural objects.
"EVERYDAY DANGERS" Grades 3-6 (Mary) An introduction to hazardous wastes found at home and in school. Identify hazardous substances and explain how they are harmful. Students become aware of less toxic alternatives.
"EVERYBODY COUNTS" Grades 5-8 (Mary) A look at population dynamics, with a focus on doubling and exponential growth. Students participate in a simulation of the use of resources by populations and generate a graph of world population trends. 60 min.
"PROBLEMS AND POSSIBILITIES" Grades 4-8 (Mary)Children will actively participate in problem solving environmental and land issues. Exploring possible solutions and role-playing different points of view will promote understanding, compromise, and thoughtful discussion.(PLT)
"OUTDOOR ETHICS" Grades 3-8 (Mary)Students will consider the effects of various outdoor activities on wild plants and animals. Using picture cards they will describe the possible harm or good done by each activity, and will recommend an alternative if appropriate. (WILD)
"TRASH AND THE THREE R's" Grades K-6 (Mary) An introductory program on this timely subject: Trash-Reduce, Recycle, Reuse. Who? How? Where? Why? When? Suggested follow up projects and activities.
"SOLAR SOLUTIONS" Grades 3-12 (Glo) A look at the ways we can use the sun's energy in our daily lives. We will use a solar cooker (weather permitting) and learn about solar design.
"PAPERMAKING" Grades 1-6 (Mar)Learn the history of papermaking and the ways we use paper today. Students make their own recycled paper using paper from the classroom recycling box. We discuss the benefits of recycling paper, and how we can conserve resources. 60 min.
"STATE SYMBOLS" Grades K-8 (Kimberly) Do you know the state bird? The state mammal? Learn about these and all of Arizona's state symbol species, and their diverse habitats.
"RANGELANDS AND RANCHING" Grades K-6 (Glo) A discussion about the importance of rangelands for livestock and wildlife production. The program includes a traveling trunk which contains many items related to ranching in our county.
"SCHOOLYARD SAFARI" Grades K-2 (Mary, Karen and Mar) Even your playground can be the setting for a field trip.
