How Will This Program Help?
Our nation, which relies heavily on finite resources, depends
on an informed
public which can adequately and comprehensively take part in
policy decisions
and actions at the local, state and federal levels. This means
that environmental
education must be communicated to all ages and all levels of
society, both
formally and informally.
"Environment" has become front page news and
is likely to remain front page
news indefinitely. As environmental issues emerge in our society,
the need for
serious attention to the environment by our educational system
becomes
increasingly obvious. The responsibility of making decisions
concerning these
problems and issues, in a democratic society, belongs to the
citizens.
The Resource Center for Environmental Education feels that
by applying our
knowledge and abilities to the development of understanding and
the skills of
environmental education, the responsibility will be met by knowledgeable
decisionmakers with effective choices and answers.
