Wildlfe Conflicts
and Opportunities

STATUS: Wildlife populations are excessive
in some localized areas, resulting
in damage to pastures and range. Elk and prairie dogs are the
major problems.
In other instances, valuable or desirable wildlife species are
sparse or absent
in some suitable areas.
POLICY: We believe wildlife is a valuable
and important part of our land.
Where excessive populations have damaged the land, we believe
in a localized
reduction in numbers. Likewise, we support the increase or establishment
of
valuable or desirable species where they would complement the
land.
IMPLEMENTATION: We will maintain continued
involvement with the
Arizona Game and Fish Department and request them to assist land
owners
and operators in the reduction of excessive populations. We offer
our assistance
to these individuals and the Department in the establishment
or introduction
of valuable and desirable wildlife species in appropriate habitats.
Since many
management decisions have some effect on wildlife and their habitat,
we
strongly encourage land managers to look for opportunities to
benefit wildlife
in their range and woodland management decisions.
