Establishment of
Additional Wilderness Areas

STATUS: There are now several wilderness areas in the District. No additional
areas are presently proposed; however, additional areas may be proposed within
the foreseeable future.

POLICY: We recommend that livestock grazing be permitted in wilderness areas
as a part of wise resource management. We recommend that Federal mining laws
be amended to be consistent with the wilderness philosophy.

IMPLEMENTATION: Through the Environmental Education Program, we will
educate the public and young people about wilderness area concepts and values
and the problems involved in single-purpose designations.
