Urbanization

STATUS: More people are coming to Northern Arizona to make their homes or
for recreation. The population of Coconino County has more than doubled the
last 20 years. This growth of population and recreational use has created some
problems associated with it, such as solid waste, transportation, air quality,
hazardous wastes, soil erosion and development choices.

POLICY: The Coconino NRCD supports the strong planning efforts of Flagstaff,
Williams, Coconino County and other agencies that are involved in land use
planning. We feel that good resource planning will assist in the minimization
of resource problems due to urbanization.

IMPLEMENTATION: The District will seek to provide input into the planning
commissions and boards by providing resource technical assistance, review
comments on planning issues, and nominating and supporting personnel to
planning boards that uphold the District's resource goals.

The District will seek to renew memorandums of understanding with agencies
and units of government that have planning and development responsibilities.
During this process, we will seek to incorporate our visions, goals and policies
into the planning agreement.
