Riparian Areas, Erosion Control
and Water Conservation

STATUS: The State Legislature has mandated a Water Resource Study which
involves vegetative manipulation within the District. Bureau of Reclamation
is presently regulating water flows on the Colorado River under a "Peak Flow"
management system.

POLICY: The District opposes the proposal for vegetative manipulation as a
means of supplementing downstream flows. The District encourages adoption
of water conservation measures. The District encourages a flow regime for the
Colorado River that more closely approximates natural variations in water flow.

IMPLEMENTATION: The District sill sponsor water conservation projects.
Furthermore, the District will assist landowners in restoring riparian areas,
implementing proper grazing use, reseeding and other measures which will
preserve and protect our water resources. The District will work with other
agencies to restore a natural flow regime to the Colorado River.
