Plan of Work
2000-2001
Goal 1:Present activity-based natural resource demonstrations to elementary, middle schools and other community groups within the Agua Fria-New River and East Maricopa NRCDs.
Actions:
A. Provide a minimum of 136 hands-on, one-hour demonstrations for schools and organizations previously working with CAEEC. These demonstrations will cover topics such as agriculture, water conservation, energy conservation, wildlife, and forestry. Included in these demonstrations are the following guidelines to meet specific grant obligations. These guidelines are dependent of the specific grants proposals being funded.
- Three land ethics presentations to satisfy part of Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) education grant with Arizona State Land Department (ASLD). These presentations will be provided throughout the year.
- Six presentations on recycling to satisfy Waste Reduction Initiative Through Education (WRITE) grant with Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ). These presentations will be provided throughout the year with approximately half provided in the first semester.
- Thirty demonstrations based on Project WET to students in grades preK through five to satisfy water education grant with Arizona Department of Water Resources (ADWR). These presentations will be provided throughout the year with approximately half provided in the first semester.
- Fifteen demonstrations based on Water in Our Desert Community to students in grades six through nine to satisfy water education grant with ADWR. These presentations will be provided throughout the year with approximately half provided in the first semester.
- One field trip on forestry to satisfy grant with Arizona Advisory Council on Environmental Education (AACEE). This field trip will be completed in September or October 2000.
- Five demonstrations on energy conservation to satisfy grant from Southwest Gas (SW Gas). These will be provided between February and June 2001.
- Twenty Presentations with Maricopa Agricultural Center (MAC) to satisfy water education grant with ADWR. These presentations will be provided throughout the year with approximately half provided in the first semester.
- Fifty six presentations at KidsCan! to satisfy grant with United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) These presentations will be provided throughout the year with approximately half provided in the first semester.
B. Work with a minimum of six additional schools within the CAEEC boundaries.
C. Research and develop interactive learning scripts and procure materials for the topics of, recycling (ADEQ), energy (SW Gas) and OHV (ASLD) programs. With the exception of the energy program, these programs will be developed in August to September 2000. The energy program will be developed in January 2001.
D. Develop and Provide Family Events to satisfy grant obligations. These activities are dependent on funding for grant proposals.

Four family events to satisfy WRITE grant with ADEQ. These presentations will be provided throughout the year with approximately half provided in the first semester.
- One family event to satisfy OHV grant with ASLD. This event will take place sometime during the calendar year.
Goal 2:Provide teacher training to elementary and middle schools within the Agua Fria-New River and East Maricop NRCDs.
Actions:
A.Provide the following teacher training workshops to satisfy grant obligations. These activities are dependent on funding for programs. Generally, these workshops will take place in May and June 2001.
- One workshop on Project WET to satisfy water education grant with ADWR
- Four workshops on recycling to satisfy WRITE grant with ADEQ.
- Two workshops on energy conservation to satisfy grant with SW Gas.
B.Work with other Education Centers to develop OHV presentations and train Education Center personnel affiliated with Arizona Association of Conservation District's (AACD) education center committee to satisfy OHV grant with ASLD. This activity will be completed by November 2000.
Goal 3:Increase visibility of the CAEEC.
Actions:
A.Develop and participate in hands-on programs and exhibits at the Arizona State Fair and EarthFest (Arizona's official Earth Day). Arizona State Fair is in fall 2000. Earthfest is in Spring 2001.
B.Develop program brochure and mail out to elementary and middle schools in the CAEEC boundaries. Brochures will be developed in August 2000 and mailed in September 2000. Reprints will be done as needed. Brochures will also be distributed at Arizona State Fair and Earthfest.
C.Write annual report. Submit to ASLD and mail to partners, legislators and cooperators. This task will be completed in June 2001
D.Visit legislators to increase awareness of the ed centers for possible future funding. This will continue throughout the 2001 legislative session.
E.Submit "Teacher of the Year" awards nomination in June 2001.
Goal 4:Obtain training on various natural resource topics.
Actions:
A.Participate in Arizona Game & Fish wildlife workshops throughout the year to gain field experience in wildlife resource management (dependent on funding).
B.Attend "Food, Land & People" facilitator training workshop.
Goal 5:Provide resources on natural resource and environmental education to teachers and community groups.
Actions:
A.Procure items/field guides/books and information which will be used as resources by educators and schools who are developing outdoor classrooms.
B.Aid schools or other community groups in coordinating special events tied to natural resource education (i.e., Earth Day events, Arbor Day events, etc.)
Goal 6:Provide educational opportunities for high school students.
Actions:
A.Develop and promote active learning project to restore heavily impacted areas due to Off Highway Vehicle use on state owned lands to satisfy OHV grant with ASLD.
B.Promote Envirothon, North America's largest natural resource competition for high school students.
C.Assist in developing and facilitating EarthFest's High School Outreach Program. This will take place in Spring 2001.
Goal 7:Develop additional funding sources for programs.
Actions:
A.Submit request for AACEE to have field trip program listed as certified provider. This request will be submitted after pilot project is complete (November 2000).
B.Submit request for funding from Central Arizona Project for water conservation education. Grant is typically due in late November or early December 2000.
C.Submit proposal to Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust for funding for wildlife programs in September 2000.
D.Submit request for funding from American Express in spring 2001.
E.Submit request for renewal funding from ADWR in late fall 2000.
F.Submit request for funding from corporate donors located in the Maricopa County area. These will be submitted on a continual basis throughout the year.
G.Apply for EPA Environmental Education funds in November 2000.
Goal 8:Develop working advisory committee for CAEEC.
Actions:
A.Develop advisory council with representatives from East Maricopa NRCD, Agua Fria-New River NRCD, and educators throughout Maricopa County.
B.Meet on a quarterly basis.
Goal 9:Miscellaneous Activities.
Actions:
A.Attend AACD Education Center summer meeting.
B.Attend AACD Education Center winter meeting.
C.Attend NACD annual meeting.
Goal 10:Administrative Activities.
Actions:
A.Submit Annual Report to ACC in April 2001.
B.Submit Form 990 to IRS in May 2001.
C.Submit Plan of Work to ASLD in June 2001.
D.Submit budget to ASLD in June 2001.
